The Patong hill (Route 4029) demands respect: use engine braking downhill rather than riding the brakes, and skip it entirely at night in heavy rain. Police checkpoints operate regularly at the hill's base and near the beach road — helmet, licence and IDP, every time. Parking: use the marked bike zones off the beach road; tow trucks do operate in Patong. Fuel stations are on Phra Barami Rd.
